HELP ME
« on: May 28, 2011, 05:33:18 PM »
I am new to overclocking anything....actually I couldn't run a computer last year without help. but recently I've learned quite a bit. i have managed to bump my processor from 2.9 to a stable 3.2 whats next is my gpu. i have an ati hd 5670 1gbddr5 by visiontek. the benchmark that Furmark gave me was 13fps and a temp of 58celcius. i just want to run rift or crysis2 without soo much tugging. without oc'in my gpu they run ok on max settings, but i feel they can do more. I"ve installed a total of 8gb of 1600mhz ram, and a 450w psu...witch may not have any thing to do with the frame rates, but hey why not? but ANY help you guy could give me would be great before i blow up my computer! ;D Oh, and i origanally just tried to use amd overdrive via amd vision engine(not catalyst because i have an amd setup) to oc my gpu, and to my dismay, it wasn't even there! i uninstalled, reinstalled, tied older versions, but no overdrive in AMD vision engine! AMD over drive is what i used to bump the processor, and it also has a window to oc the gpu, but i can't adjust the sliders...or unlock it so i can! sorry for the huge message...but I've googled the hell outta this and I'm starting to loose my mind! :coop: tnks!

The easiest way to overclock your 5670 would be to install Catalyst Control Centre (ccc)

Start by upping the GPU Clock and testing using FurMark 1.9 Burn-In test. If you get artifacts (black dots, things that look out of place) or your pc hangs then you know that the current overclock is too high. Take it back a few notches until you get no more artifacts. Write the number down and set the Clock back to stock.

Do the same process for the Memory Clock settings. Once you think that you have found stable settings for each bump both the Clock and the Memory upto the numbers you wrote down. Now give it 30 mins or so in FurMark (pref more) to test for artifacts.

Keep an eye on the temperatures if they are getting too high (90+) then you may want to look into setting a fan speed / making a fan profile in somthing like MSI Afterburner.

I dont have much experiance with older gen ATI Cards
