http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=431909"For the uninitiated, D is the baby of Walter Bright, who knows as much about C++ compilers as anyone out there. He was the guy behind Zortech C++, the first commercial C++ compiler for PC's (circa 1986) and the first commercial 32-bit compiler for PC's. Eventually Zortech was bought up by Symantec and was re-released as Symantec C++. When Symantec got out of the developer-tool business, Walter got his compiler back, so he re-branded as Digital Mars C++ where it's still available free (for just the compiler) or cheap (if you want the CD with all the extras). It's still a competitive compiler and is still getting frequent updates."
